finding the p-value in simple linear regression
i have 2 columns of data: col 1 containing the independent variable X, col 2 containing the corresponding dependent variable Y. i then do a simple linear regression for these 2 variables, which returns a slope and an intercept. my question is, how do i derive the p-value for the slope?
what i understand is that, the null hypothesis will be: slope = 0, and the alternative hypothesis will be: slope not = 0. if i am not wrong, the test statistic in this case would be the ratio (slope)/(standard error in slope). but i am not sure how i can go from there to calculate the p-value. pls help.
