not sure if this is stats, but...

This is for a stats class, though. Anyways I want a method to quantify differences in rankings. For example, the "correct ranking" is
    A
    B
    C
    D
    E
    F
    G
    H
    I
    J

But the actual ranking is something like
    D
    B
    E
    H
    A
    J
    I
    G
    C
    F

How can I put a number to the difference? Can I just add up the difference between supposed and actual? Thanks.

Try looking up "Spearman Rank Correlation" in a stats textbook or on the web.
