    independence

Two dice are rolled. Is the event of observing an 8 independent of the event of rolling doubles?

I would say no because we could have {4,4} in the intersection of the set of observing an 8(A) and the set of rolling doubles(B). Thus P(AB) does not equal P(A)P(B) which is a def'n of independence.

    This right?

Even easier: Pr(rolling double| 8 is rolled) is clearly not equal to Pr(rolling double).
