Thread: Reflective percentage on occurrence - Probability versus Work Done

I have a basic question regarding occurrence percentages. I am wondering if there is a way to reflect work done in a percentage.

Currently I am having an issue with percentages as they aren't reflective of occurrence. What do I mean well if I acheive something at a rate of 1 in 4 I have a 25% occurence and 1 in 10 a 10% occurrence.

However if I have a 0 in 4 occurrence I have 0% and if I have a 0 in 10 occurrence I have a 0% or if I have never done it before I have a 0%.

Is there a way to resolve the issue that if I have 0 in 10 I have put a lot more effort in to acheive nothing than 0 in 4 or 0 in 0. Otherwise 0 percentages could be very misleading to work and effort done and overall probability of acheving a result.

The only other way I can figure to differentiate them is based upon potential that is add 1 to their success and occurrence to indicate what their rate would be upon being successful.

so a 0 in 10 would become a 1 in 11, and a 0 in 0 would become 1/1. This then would be their potential of success. Not sure it is fully fair but is their another approach to differentiate between them?
