Thread: Median in case open ended frequency distribution?

Hello All,

I am confused what would be the answer to following question.

Can we find out the Median from the following data? How?

*********** Wages of workers in a factory
Monthly Income (Rs.) ---------- NO. of Workers
Less than 2000/- ---------------- 99
2000-2999/- ----------------- 290
3000-3999/- --------------- 240
4000-4999/- ---------------- 49
5000 & above --------------- 1100

Well I know this is an open-ended distribution and median is possible for such distribution but I am confused because highest frequency is falling in an open-ended class so what will be (h = interval) in this distribution?

Any Help Please?

I think the median is 5000 and above, right it?

All that can be said is that the median lies above 5000.
