Cool forum! I need a little help....

I have 5 questions on my math homework this weekend I don't get and am hoping you guys can help me. I'm not looking for just an answer but also HOW to do it. I need to learn it for my test...

1 .A pharmaceutical company manufacturing pregnancy test kits wants to determine the probability of a woman actually being pregnant when the test results indicate that she is not pregnant. It is estimated that the probability of pregnancy among potential users of the kit is 10%. According to the company laboratory test results 1 out of 100 non-pregnant women tested pregnant (false positive). On the other hand, 1 out of 200 pregnant women tested non-pregnant (false negative). A woman has just used the pregnancy test kit manufactured by the company and the results showed that she is not pregnant. What is the probability that she is pregnant?

    2. A manager has just received the expense checks for six of her employees. She randomly distributes the checks to the six employees. What is the probability that exactly five of them will receive the correct checks (checks with the correct names).

    3. A sample size of 500 is sufficiently large enough to conclude that the sampling distribution of is a normal distribution, when the estimate of the population proportion is .995. Is this True or False?

    4. In the most recent election, 19% of all eligible college students voted. If a random sample of 20 students were surveyed: Find the probability that exactly half voted in the election.

    5. For a binomial probability experiment, with n = 150 and p = .2, it is appropriate to use the normal approximation to the binomial distribution.
    True or False

This forum is a great place to get some help, although you need to show your attempts at these questions so the poster here know exactly where to help you!

    Good luck..

Please don't post more than two questions in a thread. Otherwise the thread can get convoluted and difficult to follow. It is better for forum organization and better for you to get your questions answered in a more timely manner if you start new threads as necessary for remaining questions. eg. If you have five questions, post two of them in two threads and start a new thread for the remaining one etc.

And if the question has more than two parts to it, it is best to post only that question and its parts in the thread and start a new thread for other questions.

    Thread closed.
