Thread: two different scholarships

A student applies for two different scholarships. The probabililty of receiving the first scholarship is 0.3 and the probability of receiving the second is 0.4. The decisions are made independently. Find the probability the student receives exactly one scholarship.
My answer is 0.3x0.4=.12 could this be right, thanks so much for checking my answer.

NO!

That is the probability that the student gets both scholarships.

The odds of only getting one is one minus the odds of not getting any sholarships. Then also subtract the odds of getting both of them.
