    limits

    lim as x approaches 1 of 1/x = does not exist

    WHY?

    I thought the answer was 1

    You're correct...it is 1...

    It should be noted that \lim_{x\to0}\frac{1}{x} doesn't exist, and \lim_{x\to1}\frac{1}{x-1} fails to exist too...
