1. ## Train Problem

An express train and a local train both leave Lake City at 12:00 noon and head for Chicago 60 miles away. The express train travel twice as fast as the local and arrives 2 hours ahead of it. Find the speed of each train.

MY SET UP:

Express Train:

rate = 2x + 2

distance = 60 miles

time = 12

Local Train:

rate = x

distance = 60 miles

time = 12

My equation:

12(2x + 2) + 12x = 60

Is this the right equation? If not, what did I do wrong?

i've got my own solution but i'm not so sure if this correct..

if Local train will be arrived in x hour then Express train will be arrived in x-2 hour (2 hours ahead).

let speed of Local train be L=60/x---------------1
let speed of Express train be 2L=60/(x-2)--------2

substitutes 1 into 2 and i got x=4
speed of local train will be 15miles/h and express train will be 30miles/h
