I believe this will get you what you want:

$\displaystyle |3.26-x| \leq .25$

$\displaystyle -.25 \leq 3.26-x \leq .25$

If you work this inequality out, you'll find the result to be:

$\displaystyle 3.01 \leq x \leq 3.51$

I can solve the inequality as you have it but creating the inequality from the given data in word problems is not an easy road.
