    quick complex number question

    when asked to write a complex number in cartesian is this is this 2+3i for example??

    Yes, a complex number is any number that includes the squareroot of a negative number. Since i^2 is defined to be -1, any number including i is an imaginary number.

    I think the question was not whether that was a complex number but whether it was in "Cartesian" form, as opposed to polar form.
