1. ## Even/Odd Function Tables

(1) Fill in the table for the following even function:

x............f(x)

-2............5
-1............2
0............1
1............?
2............?

I am told to use f(-x) = f(x)

Fill in the table for the following odd function:

x..........f(x)
-2..........5
-1..........2
0...........?
1...........?
2...........?

I am told to use f(-x) = -f(x)

They why don't you DO that? You want to find f(2) and you know that f(-2)= -1. What is f(2)?

You are told that f(-2)= 5, so now f(2)= what?

Therefore f(-2) = f(2). but f(-2) = 5. Therefore 5 = f(2).

Get it now?

Exactly the same logic applies to finding f(1). Similar logic is used for the second question.

Now it makes more sense.
