how would you do this problem. i know the equation for av. velocity is
s2-s1/t2-t1. I keep getting -9.8

What is the average velocity of the tomato during the first 5 seconds?

Assuming what you typed is correct, the tomato went ker-splat!

I got 35.5 m/s. Take $\frac {f(5) - f(0)} {5 - 0}$.
