    Functions

    The following table gives the price per unit for different volume purchases.

    # Bought: [ 2 ] [ 3 ] [ 4 ] [ 5 ] [ 6 ]
    Price Per Unit: [3/5] [5/7] [7/9] [9/11] [11/13]

    Write a function statement for the price (P) per unit if x number items are bought.

    P(x) = ??

    I'm having trouble coming up with an answer. Can anyone quickly find an the answer and provide explanations?

    Notice that the prices are always fractions and that the numerators and denominators are always odd numbers.

    (2n -1) is always an odd number.
    So is (2n +1).

    So, P(x) = (2x -1) / (2x +1) ---------answer.

    Why couldn't i think of that? I had the denominator correct...I guess i had a mathematical block.
