# Math Help - Graph of modulus function

1. ## Graph of modulus function

How do we plot the graph of the following function? Please tell the procedures involved.

f(x)= 2- [x^2 - 3]

Here, the brackets [ and ] represent modulus function. I hope you get it. I couldn't find a way to type those parallel lines through my keyboard.

recall that $|x| = \left \{ \begin{array}{lr} x & \mbox{ if } x \ge 0 \\ & \\ -x & \mbox{ if } x < 0 \end{array} \right.$

thus: $f(x) = 2 - |x^2 - 3| = \left \{ \begin{array}{lr} 2 - (x^2 - 3) & \mbox{ if } x^2 - 3 \ge 0 \\ & \\ 2 + (x^2 - 3) & \mbox{ if } x^2 - 3 < 0 \end{array} \right.$

this is a piecewise defined function. graph each function on its respective domain
