I would first expand the function to make it more recognizable, so f(w) = (w-1)^2 = w^2 - 2w + 1.

It's now easier to find the significant points.

Vertex, w = -b/(2a) = -(-2)/(2(1)) = 1. Plug it in, (1)^2 - 2(1) + 1 = 0. So the vertex is (1, 0).

Y-intercept, plug in zero for w, that is (0)^2 - 2(0) + 1 = 1. So the y-intercept is (0, 1).

X-intecept, set equation equal to zero. In this case, it's the same as the vertex.

You should be able to make a rough sketch of the parabola with just these points. If you need more points simply make a x-y (or w-y in this case) table and start plugging in numbers.
