Before I begin, what does "int" mean in terms of functions?

Is this a symbol for the greatest integer function or floor function?

If so, do we say greatest integer function of simply integer function?

Here is the question:

If f(x) = int(x/2), find the following:

(a) f(1.2)

(b) f(-1.8)

NOTE: How do I read int(x/2)? Is it "int times the fraction x/2"?

My understanding is that int(x) gives the integer part of x ......

Ok but how do you solve this question?

Can you atleast share the steps necessary to solve for f(x)?

Do I replace x with 1.2 and then again with -1.8 and simplify?

Are you familiar with functional notation? Have you met questions like

f(x) = sqrt(x/2), find f(8) etc.

f(x) = int(x/2) =>

f(1.2) = int(1.2/2) = int(0.6) ......

f(-1.8) = int(-1.8/2) = int(-0.9) .....
