Thread: How do I write an equation for an ellipse with the given properties

Center at (2, sqrt(7)/4); horizontal major axis length is 5; passes through point (5, sqrt(7)).

I'm a little confused. How can the ellipse pass through the point (5, sqrt(7). The horizontal major axis is 5, which means it extends 2.5 poinst left and right from the center. If the center is at (2, sqrt(7)/4), then the farthest it would extend to the right is 4.5, right?
