    another ellipse

    A ship is in distress off the cost of california. The ship's captain knows he is approximately 30 miles offshore. Transmitter A is located 100 miles due north of transmitter B, Both transmitters are on the coastline. From the transmission times, we know the ship is 60 miles closer to transmitter B than it is to transmitter A. Place the origin on transmitter B.

    a) Make a diagram of the situation including graph of the hyperbola.

    b) Find the hyperbolic model (in standard form) tracking the ship

    c) Find the location of the ship relative to transmitter B

    1) Ellipse?
    2) Please provide a definition of "Hyperbola" using he word "difference".

    3)
    "A" is at (0,0)
    "B" is at (0,100)
    "Ship" is at (30,a)

    4)
    Ship to "A" is \sqrt{(30-0)^{2}+(a-0)^{2}}
    Ship to "B" is \sqrt{(30-0)^{2}+(a-100)^{2}}

    5)
    You must show some effort. Let's see what you get.
