A parabola that has its vertex at the point with coordinates (-1,6) passes through the point (2,10). Find the equation of the parabola.

thanxxx heaps.

2. Given a parabola in the form $\displaystyle y = a(x-b)^{2} + c$, the vertex is given as (b, c). So, knowing that (-1, 6) is our vertex, we can simply plug it in to get: $\displaystyle y = a(x+1)^{2} + 6$

Now, we know that (2,10) is a point on the curve so we can simply substitute it in and solve for the remaining variable a.
