# Math Help - Advanced Logarithm problem ::HELP::

1. ## Advanced Logarithm problem ::HELP::

The problem is easy: X^2=2ln(X+2) Solve graphically and the answer comes out to be 1.6007 [rounded]

Our teacher challenged us to solve it ALGEBRAICALLY...he doesnt know if it is possible or but he wants us to find out and will give us extra credit if we get the steps on how to do it....

Challenge:

X^2=2ln(X+2) Solve Algebraically

please please please if it is please email me : madlangbayan@gmail.com

2. I am not ashamed to say I don't know to do it because all I have done in the past was numerically or graphically. You can't isolate the x, and even if you set a power series equal to ln(x) or exp(x) it will be to complex to solve without a computer.

There is no way to solve this algebraically. I would suggest a binary search might be a good way to find a solution. I get $x \approx 1.60071 \text{ and } x \approx -0.711744$

(Did you know about the second solution?)

4. thats what i suspected >_< cuz i manipulated it as much as i could and even changed the ln(x+2) to LOGe(x+2) but still end up stuck...anyways thanks for that graph...my calculator's windows was only positives so i missed that second solution
