# Math Help - need help for figuring out equation

1. ## need help for figuring out equation

Hello, this is the question: Two perpendicular lines intersect on the x-axis. One line has equation y=-1/2x +1. What is the equation of the other line.
This is what i got to so far:
slope of -1/2 reciprocalled is just 2, so we got y = 2x + b
Then this is where i don't know where to go.

2. Hello, simplekin!

You're almost there . . .

Two perpendicular lines intersect on the x-axis.
One line has equation: $y \:=\:-\frac{1}{2}x +1$
What is the equation of the other line?

This is what i got to so far:
Slope of -1/2 reciprocated is just 2 . . . so we got: y = 2x + b
Then this is where i don't know where to go.

The line, $y \:=\:-\frac{1}{2}x + 1$ has an x-intercept of 2.
. . Hence, the two lines intersect at (2,0).

You found that the other line has a slope of 2.

Can you write the equation of the line through (2,0) with slope 2 ?
