my attempt: I divide everything by 2 so that I end up with

I then use quadratics formula and results are:

The answer is suppose to be n = 4, what did I do wrong?

2. ## Re: Radical Equations #2

Hey Mathnood768.

Hint: n^2 - 7 = (7-n)^2 not (7-n^2).

3. ## Re: Radical Equations #2

oh, I typed it in wrong, that's what I meant. You end up with with n^2 - 7 = (7-n)^2

4. ## Re: Radical Equations #2

Now try collecting terms and simplifying to get a value of n (use the quadratic formula).

5. ## Re: Radical Equations #2

well u did a basic mistake....

n^2 term cancels on both sides yielding 14n-56 =0 that is n=4 which is reqd. answer...
