    Parabola translations and and scalings

    Hi, I am very new to functions so have no instinct about weather I am right or wrong so would really like some help.

    If I have a function f(x) = 1/4(x-2)^2-4 and I want to obtain a parabola by translations and scalings from the graph of y=x^2 then I do the following;

    a y scaling with a factor of 1/4
    a horizontal translation by 2 units to the right
    a vertical translation by 4 units up

    Is that correct?

    Yes, except that it is four units down, not up.
