Math Help - how do i find an equation for the hyperbola

    Unhappy how do i find an equation for the hyperbola


    center at (1,4); focus at (-2,4); vertex at (0,4)

    i know how to get h and k but i dont know how to get a^2 and b^2===>


    (x-1)^2 (y-4)^2

    a is the distance from center to vertex. So a = 1, and a2 = 1.


    c is the distance from center to focus. So c = 3, and c2 = 9.


    Also rememver that b2 = c2 - a2.
