Without bracketing symbols, I am making an educated guess you are given to simplify:

First step: factor all numerators and denominators. What do you get? - Nov 3rd 2012, 10:13 PMilikemathRe: Simplify
i ended up with (x+2)(X-2) . -4(x-3) then cancelled common terms and was left with -4(x-2)

however the answer in my textbook is -4x^2+20x-6 / x-3 - Nov 3rd 2012, 10:18 PMMarkFLRe: Simplify
I agree with your result, which I would write as 4(2 - x).
