Need help with intricate math word problem.
Fred is responsible for keeping the fish tanks filled at the Aquarius
Fountain Store. One of the 50-gallon tanks has a small leak and, along
with evaporation, it loses two gallons of water each day. Today the
tank is full. Fred has been instructed to add five gallons of water to
the tank at the end of every third day, and, at the end of the thirtieth
day, he will completely fill the tank, instead. How much water will
Fred add on the thirtieth day?

Re: Need help with intricate math word problem.
Hey testtrail429.
Can you show us what you have tried?
Lets give a few hints: V(t) is the volume of the tank in gallons. V(0) = 50. You lose 2 gallons a day which means you lose 2*t gallons for every t days. Now you add give gallons every third day which means you add 5 gallons every 3 days, or if you have n days you add n/3 - n % 3 where n % 3 is the remainder you get from dividing 3 into n.

Thank you I Appreciate that and I have given this some thought and I appreciate the hints they are very helpful to put the word problem into mathematical language, which is what I primarily had troubles with.
Re: Need help with intricate math word problem.
I need your help this statistic exercise about probability
Given P(A)=0.2 and P(B)=0.4:
a. If A and B are independent events, compute P(A and B)
b. If P(A|B)= 0.1, compute P(A and B)
Re: Need help with intricate math word problem.
Hey babybear111.
Do you know what the definition of independence is? (Hint: It relates the probabilities of P(A) and P(B) to P(A and B))? Also do you know the definition of conditional probability?
