# Math Help - Plane equation

1. ## Plane equation

Hi,

I am trying to understand the following problem:

Find the parametric vector equation of the line through $(2, -1, 2)$ and perpendicular to the plane $x-2z=5$

The equation of the line is just the point + a vector in that direction. The answer shows:

$(2, -1, 2) + t(1, 0, 2)$

But how do you know it's perpendicular?

2. ## Re: Plane equation

I figured it out!

From the equation of the plane, the coefficients yield the components of the normal vector

3. ## Re: Plane equation

So I think it should be t(1,0,-2) not t(1,0,2)

4. ## Re: Plane equation

Yes, Thank you.
