# Thread: Solving x values for logarithmic equation.

1. ## Solving x values for logarithmic equation.

I would really appreciate some help with this problem. I don't know how to factor or use log to get the x values. I haven't run into a problem like this before.

Solve the equation. (Round your answers to four decimal places.)

x2e2x + 6xe2xe2x = 0

Thanks for the help in advance.

$e^{2x}(x^2+6x-1) = 0$

since $e^{2x} > 0$ for all $x$, only the quadratic factor can equal 0

3. ## Re: Solving x values for logarithmic equation.

x = .1623

x = -6.1623

Both were correct. Thanks for the help.

did you really need the calculator?

$x = -3 \pm \sqrt{10}$

5. ## Re: Solving x values for logarithmic equation.

I had to input the answers as decimals into the computer - that's the only way it accepts them.
