    What is the ref angle for tan(theta) = 3 or tan (theta) = (sqrt3)/3?

    The reference angle is always the angle in the first quadrant.

    There is no way to "calculate" such a thing. Use a calculator and then apply the hints Prove It and skeeter gave you.
