Confused on a problem with finding the area that has an enclosure

Ok, so the problem was about a person with 300 feet of fence to make a rectangle enclose. The person also wanted to use the fence to split the enclose to two parts with the fence paralel to two of the sides. What are the dimensions?
So I am confuse on how to solve this.

I thought the it was a rectangle with a line in between
Then did all the lengths = a
and all the wides = b
    then I did 3a + 2b = 300
Though I think I messed up.
    Can anyone help me?

That looks like a good start. Does the problem state anything about the area enclosed ?

Oh I just found out the answer
    I used my equation
Then what I was thinking was (-b/2a)
    So I plugged in (-150/2(-3/2)) = 50
Then I plugged everything back in to get 75

    So its 50 x 75
Thank you for trying to help though
Took me hours to found this out, since it took a while for someone to reply xD
    Thanks though

One reason, perhaps, that "it took a while" (actually, less than 2 hours is not such a long time.) is that is was never clear what your question was! There exist an infinite number of pairs of numbers, a, b, such that 2a+ 3b= 300. Even now, I have no idea how you got "50 x 75". Were you asked to find the dimensions for the maximum area? If so, it would have been a good idea to tell us that!
