# Math Help - Evaluating Functions

1. ## Evaluating Functions

Hi everyone,

I'm having a hard time with a math problem. It gets too messy for me.
The given function is: F(t)= 4/t-3

Asks to compute and simplify: (a) F(3y+4 / y) and (b) F(3y+4) / F(y)

can please somebody help me with this?!

Hi everyone,

I'm having a hard time with a math problem. It gets too messy for me.
The given function is: F(t)= 4/(t-3)

Asks to compute and simplify: (a) F[(3y+4) / y] and (b) F(3y+4) / F(y)

note ... please use grouping symbols.

$F(t) = \frac{4}{t-3}$

$F\left(\frac{3y+4}{y}\right) = \frac{4}{\frac{3y+4}{y} - 3} = \frac{4y}{(3y+4) - 3y} = \frac{4y}{4} = y$

now ... you try (b)

3. ## Re: Evaluating Functions

First of all thank you very much skeeter.

I tried (b) is it correct?

I don't know how to work the math notation on the forum

4. ## Re: Evaluating Functions

should be 3y+1 in the denominator
