Graphing equation with calculator

If y=3x+12/(2x-12)what value does y approach as x gets infinitely larger?

The answer is 3/2.

When I put the expression above in my graphing calculator, I got some fancy graph with vertical asymptotes, and not one in line with the problem. I don't think I'm putting it in the calculator right. Any idea what I am doing wrongly?

If you calculate this limit

$\displaystyle \lim_{x\to +\infty} \frac{3x+12}{2x-12}$

Then you'll come to the answer by dividing every term in the numerator and denominator by $\displaystyle x$.

Make sure you enter the correct brackets in your calculator:

y=(3x+12)/(2x-12)
