# Thread: Powers and quotient of complex numbers?

1. ## Powers and quotient of complex numbers?

2x^4+2+2\sqrt{3}i Can anyone show me how to set this up in a+bi form to solve it?

2. What do you mean "solve it"? There's no equation to "solve". What exactly is it you're trying to do? Can you state the original problem, word-for-word, please?

Solve what??

Do you mean solve 2x^4+2+2\sqrt{3}i = 0?

Then x^4 = -1 - sqrt{3}i.

Write -1 - sqrt{3}i in polar form, then x is the four fourth roots etc. How to do this has been explained to you already in several previous questions.

4. Thank I am sorry for my ignorance but now I understand.

Why are you being so darn hardheaded?
Why not learn to post in symbols? You can use LaTeX tags
$$2x^4+2+2\sqrt{3}\mathbf{i}$$ gives $2x^4+2+2\sqrt{3}\mathbf{i}$.
