    finding linear solutions

Hello, I am stuck on how to solve these two.
I need to find all real solutions of these equations.
Can someone give me a pointer as to how to go about it.

    x^3-2x^2-x-1 = 0
    x(x-1)(x+2) = 1/6x

    Thanks kindly

The first one doesn't factorise, so you will need to use numerical methods.

Where have these questions come from? What were the instructions? Are you expected to solve exactly or approximately? The second question is ambiguous - do you mean (1/6) x or 1/(6x)?
