Function for V
A rectangular piece of cardboard has dimensions 20cm by 36cm. Four squares each x cm by x cm are cut from the corners. An open box is formed by folding up the flaps. Find a function for V, which gives the volume of the box in terms of x, and state the domain for the function.

You should know that a rectangular prism has volume \$\displaystyle \displaystyle V = lwh\$.

What are the length, width and height going to be?

If the cardboard originally is 36 cm long and an x-centimeter square is cut from each end, what length is left? If the cardboard originally is 20 cm wide and an x centimeter square is cut from each end, what width is left? What is the height of the box?
