Solve y = x + 1/x with 0 \< x \< 1 for x in terms of y.
I need help with this assignment, Problem 3:

Solve y = x + 1/x with 0 \< x \< 1 for x in terms of y.

Any clues as to how to do this, would be greatly appreciated :)

$y = x + \frac{1}{x}$ ... note that $x \ne 0$.

multiply every term by $x$ ...

$xy = x^2 + 1$

$0 = x^2 - xy + 1$

$x = \frac{y \pm \sqrt{y^2 - 4}}{2}$
