    Post equation of the line that passes through the point

    which one of the following is the equation of the line that passes through the point (-5,7) and is parallel to the y-axis?

    1. y = -5
    2. y = 7
    3. x = -5
    4. x = 7
    5. y = 5/7

    Any line which is parallel to y-axis must have the equation x=k for some number k.

    Since it must pass through (-5,7) we see that k=-5 (the x-coordinate).
