Thread: Matrix equation of a conic.

1. Matrix equation of a conic.

now look into this question.. i am not getting it........ select one correct option...

2. First of all multiply the matrices.

3. after multiplication and rearranging equation i got...(x^2)/3 + (y^2)/5 = 1. what's next?

What's next is that you go to your class notes or textbook and compare this equation with the general equations of the curves you have learned about. (Or you reflect on what you have learned from the thread here: http://www.mathhelpforum.com/math-he...on-155325.html). Then you choose an option.

5. reply

I have learned from the last thread that it is an equation of ellipse and its semi major axis comes out to be (root(5))/2. but it does not matches with any of options. am i wrong somewhere or all options in the question are incorrect???????????

6. In the equation of ellipse

$\frac{x^2}{a^2} + \frac{y^2}{b^2} = 1$, a is the semi major axis if a>b.

I have added a reply to that thread. Go back and take a look.
