What is the image, x^2 + y^2 + 2x - 9 = 0, after a reflection in the line y = -x + 1? I don't even know where to start...

Replace $\displaystyle x,y $ with $\displaystyle 1 - y' , 1-x' $ respectively . Then the equation obtained , $\displaystyle f(x',y') = 0 $ is the reflected image . The answer is $\displaystyle x^2 + y^2 - 2x - 4y - 5 = 0 $ .
