    arcsin(1.001) = no solution

This may be a silly question, but I'm just wondering why the arcsins cannot handle anything above 1 or below 01

You can solve it by plotting a right triangle and using the definition of sine or cosine (How?)

Okay, because its impossible to make a triangle with a longer leg than hypo.

Maybe my rationale is too far out to be acceptable?

I think I got it; if you attempted to draw a triangle that had an angle of arcsin1.001, the triangle would not be a triangle because each leg of the triangle would be longer the hypotenuse, making it impossible to draw.

At the risk of opening a can of worms, I should point out that you can compute the arcsin in question, if you allow complex answers. However, if you want to stay in the reals, then you're confined to computing the arcsin of values between -1 and +1, inclusive.
