    is it correct to include the third quadrant portion in a sketch of the function x^(-1/3)?

    Depends on whether you have restricted the domain of this function, on whether we are dealing with an equality/inequality, etc. What you have now is just an expression. It needs some context.

    note that x = 0 is not in the domain.
