    Exponential Function

    You are working with a population of bacteria in liquid culture that's in its exponential growth phase. Your starting sample of cells is 5.09 X 1014, and 69 minutes later the population has doubled. What is the growth rate constant, k (bacteria min-1), of this population of exponentially growing bacteria?

    P = P_0 e^{kt}

    2P_0 = P_0 e^{k \cdot 69}

    2 = e^{69k}

    solve for k
