Need Verification of Taxi Ride Equation

Hi can you verify that the equation for this taxi ride is y = 0.4x + 2.5. And for the miles they said 1/4 which is 0.25 but if I plug that into the equation it would give a really low charge which I don't think is correct. How should I set up this table?

    Thanks in advance.

What does x equal? if its number of quarter miles, the equation would be y = .4(x-1) + 2.5, because your adding the $2.50 for the first quarter mile. Don't know about the chart, unless they just want you to show the function with distance plugged in on one side and the fare at the other? Hope I was able to help!

I don't think that is it because if you plug in 0(miles) for x you would get $2.1. I think the answer should be $2.5 because that is the set price no matter so far you go before the 1/4 miles. So after 1/4 miles they would start charging the additional 0.4 cents for each 1/4 miles.

well remember, it says charges 2.50 for the first quarter mile. And also, if you sat down in a taxi and asked to go 0 miles, I have a feeling you'd just get kicked out and not pay anything anyway, making the charge 0.

Oh I see, it says the first 1/4 mile. All this time I thought 2.5 was the set cost so it wouldn't matter if you went lower than 1/4, you would still have to pay $2.5, but not the $0.4 cost until you have pasted the 1/4 mile limit.
