I have a problem that says write the equation of the inverse of the given function. Then find the listed value.

I attached a copy of the problem because I don't know how to type it. Thanks!

solve $\displaystyle x = (-8 - 8y)^{1/4}$ for $\displaystyle y$, you'll get

$\displaystyle y = h^{-1}(x) = . . .$,

then $\displaystyle h^{-1}(-1) = $ - Dec 17th 2009, 07:46 AMJSB1917
In order to get inverse functions you can solve for x in the original equation and then switch x and y, or first switch x and y and then solve.

This is the original equation...

$\displaystyle y = \sqrt[4]{-8-8x}$ and $\displaystyle x\leq -1$
