    Conchita's Coral

Conchita's building a coral for her horse. She has 200 ft of fencing. She also has a canyon wall which is aslong as you want. What is the maxmium area of the encloser?

the perimeter with L = length and W = width can be expressed by

    $\displaystyle L+W+W = 200$

    $\displaystyle L+2W = 200$

    Putting L in terms of W we get $\displaystyle L = 200-2W$

Now Area equals L by W

    $\displaystyle A = L\times W $

    $\displaystyle A = (200-2W)\times W $

now expand this and find the turning point.
