# Math Help - Help With Word Problems?

1. ## Help With Word Problems?

I have some questions that i just cannot figure out... Now i do plan to ask my teacher tomorrow for some help but i'm short for time in the morning and probably can't ask more than like 1 question for help... Anyway, even if u guys can answer one, it would be helpful! Thanks you so much for any information you can give! The Helpless cannot be chosing (or how ever it goes)

Anyway:

Question 1.
The total cost in dollars of producing x items is given by C = 0.02x^3 +5x. For what number of items is the average cost per item equal to $5.50? Question 2. A large pipe is placed next to a wall and a 1-ft-high block of wood is placed 5 ft from the wall to keep the pipe in place. What is the radius of the pipe? Question 3. An experimental electric-solar car completed a 100-mi race in 35 hr. For the 600 mi traveled during daylight the car averaged 20 mpg more than it did the 400 mi traveled at night. What was the average speed of the car during the daytime? Question 4. Rafael designed a sequined dress to be worn at the Academy Awards. His top seamstress, Maria, could sew on all the sequins in 10 hours less time than his next-best seamstress, Stephanie. To save time, he gave the job to both women and got all of the sequins attached in 17 hrs. How long would it have taken Stephanie working alone? Sorry for so many questions, I don't expect help on all of them. If you can answer just 1, Thank you very much!! I do plan to ask my teacher for some help tomorrow 2, just everything i can get done right now, the better! lol And again, sorry for the long post, but THANK YOU 2. can you show me what you did maybe i can spot what you did wrong.

3. Ok, i figured out 1 and 4.. For number 2, i honestly have no clue where to begin because we didn't do any examples of it in class. For number 3 here is what i did (just a guess at it, he gave us this formula d/r=t)

600/(20+x)+400/x=35
6x+400(20+x)=35x(20+x)
6x+8000+400x=700x+35x^2
-35x-294x+8000=0
