    need help on "integral part" [x]

    Using definition 3.3 on NZM
    For real x, the symbol [x] denotes the greatest integer less than or equal to x.
    Why is [-15/2]=-8.

    -\frac{15}{2} = -7.5

    What's the largest integer that's smaller than -7.5 ?

    -8,
    so [-3/2]=-2, since -\frac{3}{2} = -1.5 and the the largest integer that is smaller -1.5 is -2?
