    rational numbers proof

    Prove that there is no rational number x such that x^2 = -1.

    None required, the square of a real number is positive, so no real number has a negative square, hence no rational has a negative square.

    If you mean show that there is no rational x such that x^2=2 then see the Wikipedia article.
