    Any thoughts on this Proof?

    Hi,

    I'm wondering if there is any way to prove that if 2 numbers x and y are divided by z and they give the remainders r1 and r2 to show that the remainders of xy/z is the same as the remainder of r1r2/z?

    Even something to get me started would be a help.

    I don't know if there is a more elegant way, but let x = az + r1 and y = bz + r2. Then what is the remainder when you take xy/z = (az + r1)(bz +r2)/z ?
